Clinician Applications

Paid project work for practicing physicians.

Synapse builds custom medical training data for AI companies. We hire credentialed clinicians for project-based work across specialties.

What the work involves

AI companies, both frontier labs and medical AI startups, need large volumes of physician-written data to train and evaluate their models. Generic annotation vendors use non-credentialed workers to produce this data. Synapse offers an alternative: structured, project-based work where the content is written and reviewed by practicing clinicians.

The work is text-based and done asynchronously. You receive a project brief with task specifications, a sample, and a deadline. You complete the tasks on your own schedule within that window.

  • Writing expert responses to clinical questions, both patient-facing and clinician-facing
  • Constructing board-style multiple choice questions with detailed explanations, used as AI benchmarks
  • Reviewing and grading AI-generated medical responses against a structured 5-dimension rubric
  • Creating adversarial scenarios designed to expose model failures in safety-critical situations
  • Multimodal tasks: image description, audio, procedural video Coming Q3 2026

Work is project-based, not continuous. There is no ongoing commitment and no minimum hours requirement.

Compensation

Compensation is project-dependent and varies by task type, specialty, and complexity. Typical ranges:

Task typeTypical range (per task)
SFT response writing$50 – $150
Eval item construction$75 – $200
Rubric grading$25 – $75
Red-team scenarios$50 – $150
Subspecialty / custom workNegotiated per project

Hourly rates are negotiated for larger or ongoing custom engagements. Payment is on completion of approved deliverables, typically within 30 days of submission.

Time commitment

Variable. Projects typically involve 5–20 hours of work over 1–3 weeks. You are offered individual projects and accept or decline each one. There is no standing obligation and no minimum hours.

Most clinicians engage during quiet periods: evenings, between patients, or during less busy rotations. The work is asynchronous and does not require real-time availability or meetings.

If a project scope or deadline does not fit your schedule, you can decline without any consequence for future project offers.
